Protector M151 Maintenance Details

General Description : A unit’s capability of performing its combat mission is entirely dependent on the condition of the allocated equipment needed for the mission. Proper care, cleaning and maintenance of the PROTECTOR cannot be over−emphasized. The proper functioning of the station and the mounted weapon determines the overall effectiveness of operation.

Maintenance functions

Maintenance functions are defined as follows:

- Service: To clean, preserve and correct possible faults in order to keep material in operational condition.

- Test: To verify serviceability and to detect incipient failure by measuring the mechanical and/or electrical characteristics of an item and comparing these characteristics with prescribed standards.

- Inspect: To determine serviceability of an item by comparing its physical, mechanical and electrical characteristics with established standards.

- Adjust: To correct to the extent necessary to bring into the proper operating range.

- Install: The act of placing, seating, or fixing into position an item, part, module (component or assembly) in a manner that allows the proper functioning of the equipment/system.

- Replace: To replace unserviceable items with serviceable assemblies, sub−assemblies or parts.

- Repair: To restore an item to a completely serviceable condition followed by necessary quality control.

- Overhaul: To restore an item to a completely serviceable condition as prescribed by maintenance serviceability standards. The maintenance allocation chart designates overall responsibility for the maintenance function of an item or assembly and states where necessary maintenance resources are allocated.

Organization of Maintenance:

In order to ensure proper maintenance of the PROTECTOR, We organize the maintenance into different levels of responsibility.
1- Operator/Crew Maintenance
2- Field Maintenance
3- Top Level Maintenance
4- Periodic Maintenance Jobs

1. Operator/Crew Maintenance

This level of maintenance is the responsibility of the operator/crew. It involves the correct handling of the system and daily and periodic service such as inspection and cleaning.

- The operator/crew level maintenance is the key to the entire maintenance system. Proper preventative maintenance will reduce the risk of malfunction during operation.

- Defects discovered during operation should be noted for correction after operation has ceased.

- The maintenance will be guided and checked by the commanding officer.
- Our team trains the operators to well perform this level of maintenance and regularly follow up with them, When the maintenance required is beyond the scope of the operator/crew, it would be referred to the next maintenance level.

2. Field Maintenance

- This level of maintenance is the responsibility of the Field Maintenance.
- The maintenance is performed by skilled maintenance personnel in the field of operation.

- This level of maintenance includes:
Shooting Support: preparation after & before& during shooting, Including Zeroing, boresighting and Machine Gun readability.
Inspection.
Technical service.
Troubleshooting.
Repair by replacement.
Airport terminal

3. Top Level Maintenance

The maintenance is performed by skilled maintenance personnel with special training in inspection, technical service, troubleshooting, and major repair and overhaul according to original equipment specifications.

4. Periodic Maintenance Jobs

Flushing and Filling of the TIM with nitrogen
Flushing and Filling of the VIM with nitrogen
Flushing and Filling of the LRF with nitrogen
Cleaning of the VIM, TIM and LRF with special Lens cleaning kit
Lubricate Soft Mount, Cocking Brackets and Ammunition Box
Adjusting the friction breaks.
Cleaning RWS from dust, salt and oil.
Checking all the Cables and connectors.
Checking all LRUs and make sure that there is no damaged part
Check FCU and CG to make sure that all the buttons are working and functioning normally.
